Alastair Laing, curator of the paintings collection of the British National Trust, has confirmed this pair of paintings to be the autograph work by the court painter to Queen Marie Antoinette (written certificate of 1991). Leclerc, who belonged to an artist dynasty, took his lead in his narratively composed pastoral scenes from Watteau. See Leclercs 'Menuett' in the Musée du Petit Palais, Paris.
